Big WIN on FullTilt!

Whatsup? I thought I'd update the world on the latest big poker event. This past Sunday night I played in the nightly 35K GTD on FT. The event had a $69+6 buy-in, ran 800+ players and lasted for 6 1/2 hrs...I ended up 2nd overall for a $8234 payout! Oh, the hand I busted out on was sic. I raised pre-flop w/77...after a delay bdubs called...flop has a 9xx with 2 diamonds...I had decided while he was taking his time on the pre-flop call that if he did call, I was moving in with whatever showed on the flop...feel pretty good about the flop...he times all the way down - 3 sec left in the bank, and calls my all-in...he's got me outchipped by 1BB...turn is a blank, river is a fucking Q...figures! Tough way to lose 5k (the difference between 1st and 2nd), but the payout is still my largest on-line so far! I'm pretty psyched with the finish. So is the wife, for that matter! LOL That's 2 large payouts in a month!

I really feel like my tournment play is getting stronger. With that said, I am actively looking for around for some info about strengthening my play during the latter part of the big tournaments. Whether its just a "dealer" problem - it seems like I go card dead soon after making it into the money in most tournaments, or a lack of aggression trying to "climb the ladder", I'm not sure. I really think it's more of the former. I have developed a relatively aggressive style for trying to amass chips to get the win, as opposed to just trying not to bubble or make the final table.

I just started playing a lot on FullTilt a couple of months ago. Before that, I played almost exclusively on a smaller site called Bugsy's Club. It was a pretty solid site - many of the same players playing in all the bigger payout tournaments, but, as with many things - it has changed. For what are probably obvious reasons (lack of players), they have changed many of their games. They ran some strong GTD tournaments ($1200 GTD w/100 runners, etc.) and they always started with 10k in chips with a decent blind schedule...always seemed like a good place to sit and play. Recently, they have gotten rid of many of their GTDs and moved to mostly re-buy tournaments with about a half-dozen bounties in the field. Just not the place for me right now.

Enuf for now...just some ramblings about my latest poker stuff...wish I was in Vegas!

Sitting Alone

This is my first attempt at blogging...not sure if it's for me or not yet. Probably not. Just an attempt to keep up with the society I live in, I guess. It's also a way to get some of my frustrations out when the gym is closed.

Most of those frustrations seem to come from the poker table. At least today they have. I consider myself a good player - not great by any means, but not bad either. I faced a few of those "bad" ones today. Some stupid shit is to be expected, but I was knocked out of three tournaments today by some REALLY stupid shit - at least I moved/called each time with the best hand...haha. Whoever coined that statement must've been seeing a shrink...such BS.

So, I named my blog "The Fog of War - Life, Poker, and Steaks". Crazy name probably, but sorta explains the ambiguity of my life. Ever feel like you were spinning your wheels? Not fully reaching your potential - either in your chosen profession or in your personal life? Uncertain about your capabilities, or how far you should reach into your dreams or desires? There you have it - you, too, are experiencing your own "fog of war". Good - I feel better already, knowing that I'm not the only one walking around in a "fog"!

The rest of the name comes from other highlights right now in my life. Poker and Steaks. More on that later on - if I really decide to keep up with this...blog. I guess sitting at home alone, with a computer in your lap, is not a good thing! Later.
